Cristina Fernandez…
is an actor, comedian and writer.
Her latest solo show, Godless, an existential clown comedy that’s part theater part wedding reception, is running at UCB LA (Upright Citizens Brigade), all through September.
Recent on camera work includes Ruthie Joins A Death Cult (currently in production), ‘72, selected for the Sundance Feature Film Development Program, (World Premiere, Santa Barbara International Film Festival), and numerous National Commercials.
Cristina has worked alongside Jake Szymanski, Conan O’Brien, Christopher Guest, Abso Lutely Productions, to name a few. She has been seen and heard on NBC, HBO, Fuse, NBA, NHL, American Latino and Mark Burnett Productions’ Cliffs Notes Animated Series. She has performed in films selected for SXSW, Los Angeles Film Festival and Red Bank Film Festival.
Cristina also performs her uniquely dark existential comedy throughout the country, (Comedy Store, Laugh Factory) and her writing was commissioned for the anthology “Our Red Book,” a collection of essays, oral histories, and artworks about periods across all stages of life, published by Simon & Schuster. This is her second collaboration with Rachel Kauder Nalebuff, the editor of the New York Times bestseller My Little Red Book.
Cristina grew up watching comedy with her father and admiring the greats: Gilda Radner, Lily Tomlin and Carol Burnett. Though her early career centered around acting, she eventually chose to focus on comedy and writing after working on set with Christopher Guest, Jennifer Coolidge and the rest of the Best In Show crew and watching them work their singular magic.
She holds an MFA in Acting from California Institute Of The Arts (Calarts) and is originally from Puerto Rico. Yes, it’s part of the United States ;)
WRITING
Our Red Book is a collection of essays, oral histories, and artworks about periods across all stages of life, gathered by the editor of the New York Times bestselling anthology My Little Red Book.
Cristina Fernandez contributes to Our Red Book with a piece of writing that creates a dynamic narrative for the reader: blending English and Spanish, Cristina gifts us with insight into how identity and language continue to evolve.
Through her writing, Cristina compassionately weaves her Cuban refugee mother’s first period story with her own, as they guide us through the taboos of their culture, personal histories, and what is (and what’s not) passed down through generations.
TRANSLATION / LOCALIZATION
Cristina is an accomplished actor, writer and translator with a fierce commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. She has contributed her localization expertise to Chicago Med (NBC), OxyArts at Occidental College, DQ World video games, Los Angeles Performance Practice and El Verde comic book.
Combining her Latiné background with her love of language, Cristina is expert at crafting compelling narrative and dramatic translations to create engaging, culturally relevant content to reach local and international audiences.
Cristina is currently working on a film for the Sundance Feature Film Development, and the La Egoista premiere at Actors Theatre of Louisville. She is excited to bring her contribution to this vital programming for TV, film and theater.
“Cristina’s understanding of the subtle intricacies of the Spanish language- its diverse dialects and respective cultures- have made our stories specific and powerful. Her writing lends authenticity and ensures representation while preserving the integrity of the story.”
Joseph Sousa, TV writer (Before, Chicago Med)
“Cristina Fernandez is an exceptional translator who brings a life long experience being perfectly bi lingual in both English and Spanish to her work. Her attention to detail and ability to be sensitive to nuances in both languages is unparalleled. I loved working with her on my film 72, and look forward to working together in the future.”
